The cambridge humane society helped me out tremendously. Their compassion program is a wonderful service, without them I dont know what I would have done. A special thank you to Kat for guiding me through the process.
We recently adopted a cat from the Cambridge Humane Society. He is so wonderful and the most loving cat. We absolutely adore him. The process of adopting him was seamless and it is very evident that Michelle has a passion for helping animals. Thank you CDHS!
This Presa dog below (and a 2nd dog) were involved in a brutal dog attack on me and my dog in July 2024. My dog (and I) sustained severe injuries as a result the incident. I reported it immediately to animal control, the incident was caught on 2 videos, along with multiple witnesses statements all provided to CHS in a matter of days. The CHS/Animal control, despite all the evidence handed to them, dragged their feet on the investigation leaving the public at risk to further potential attacks. I contacted the media to shed light on my concerns for the public, as there are multiple schools and a daycare nearby and the lack of action from CHS. After the so called “investigation”, only one dog (the male Merle pitbull) was deemed dangerous despite this specific Presa dog chasing us down and instigating/participating in the attack. This dog easily could have been deemed dangerous under current bylaws due to her actions. Instead absolutely no charges were laid in relation to this dog ( as shown in FOI request to City) The owner of the 2 dogs sadly surrendered the involved dogs together to CHS a few months after the attack as he was no longer able to care for them. This was verified by both myself and media. This Presa dog was now renamed “Heidi” was posted on CHS as a “stray with no history”! This dog was involved in a reported dog attack caught on multiple photos/video and was under investigation for an attack; There was plenty of history on this dog. These were 2 dogs that were supposed to be monitored by dangerous dog bylaw, there is no excuse why she was labelled as having “no history”. After seeing the post/ renaming/ false information, Media and City Officials were notified again, both reached out to CHS about this dog. CHS took down the post of the dog quickly and refused to comment on the dog. The dog “disappeared”. Well now this dog has now reappeared at a properly suited rescue and renamed “mocha” and will hopefully be placed into an appropriate home to set her up for success. The post however clearly states the dogs owner wasn’t able to take care of her and stated she being “true to her breed and will not back down”. They also indicated to me that “they had the full story on the dog” when I reached out the them. This is a true depiction of how her post should have read for proper placement, there is absolutely no need for the deceptive post CHS posted about this dog, it’s blatantly irresponsible and poor practice. Imagine a family adopting that dog thinking the dog was a poor stray when it in fact was a guardian dog at an industrial unit and involved in a reported attack! CHS has been completely deceitful to the very public who supports it. It’s irresponsible, unnecessary, and blatant negligence and not to mention setting this dog up to fail. This dog needs a very specific home in order to thrive. I am disgusted by this organization and how it handled this case and more specifically the post attack outcome. The level of incompetence through this investigation is beyond words. The case was handed to them. There is absolutely no need for deceptive practices when adopting out dogs. They put a lot of people at risk by their lack of appropriate action and by deplorable practices like this. It’s not fair to the dogs, or family adopting them if there is no transparency. I truly hope this dog finds a home, one who is knowledgeable of the breed and it’s needs. This is not a dog that is suitable for the general public to adopt and the potential family deserves full disclosure; that is nowhere near what the CHS did by posting that dog as they did. The integrity of this organization through this incident and various other incidents as of late, is clearly tarnished and will no longer get any support from me. Shame on you, do better. I called for a cat crying in my hallway for almost 2 hours. It’s cold in the apartment hallway and all this place told us to do was either bring it in our apartment or leave food out for the cat. Ridiculous service for someone who says they have officers working 24 hours a day. Obviously you people don’t give a damn about animals.
Please be careful dealing with this particular Humane Society. I applied to adopt a dog that was listed on its profile as being a surrender by owner because it popped its neighbors inflatable pool. About 2 days after my application submission, the story changed to the dog was found as a stray. These 2 very different stories can make a huge difference to a household with young children looking to adopt. In one case the H.S. has a general idea of the pets medical history & behavior & in the other, they don't know anything at all. My husband questioned them on this & never received an answer. I have now questioned them on this & am awaiting a response from Michelle, the adoption counselor. FYI, I was denied approval because my 2 cats are not spayed. The funny thing is that they are & were done so by the Stratford Humane Society. This place fails to do their proper research & just seem to be interested in pulling the wool over people eyes.
Very disappointing that the compassion and empathy within this organization starts and stops at reception. The person responsible for community programs, Michelle, is demeaning and frankly put, rude which makes me question why she's even responsible for any community program. After describing the situation for a friend she scolded me like a child, brought me to tears, then hung up on me. During our conversation I expressed my willingness to offer my time via volunteer work at the shelter which was dismissed. This makes me question whether they need volunteers or not. Are they so well supported that they'd turn away someone's interest to volunteer their time on a scheduled basis? Apparently so. If you do need volunteers and donations then it would be wise to change the work attitude at this establishment for paid employees and develop a much better relationship with your community. Why bother donating any time or money to an establishment that will kick you when you're down let alone help you on the off occasion that you need to make use of their community support?! Your actions and attitude explains why humane societies struggle to operate sufficiently. Put your time and donations towards services that are genuinely grateful and willing to help, not further hurt, their community and animals.
Amber was most helpful when we adopted Foxy. Amber helped out family understand the process and what to expect. What we appreciate the most is how Amber continues to be here to help understand making herself available. He is positive and supportive. Amber had gone above and beyond for us. Amber, on behalf of the Mohamed family, thank you so much for your help in all this. Thank you for being kind ❤️
